As a sworn Dutch – English interpreter and translator, I make sure that people not only hear each other, but also truly understand one another. I work for a variety of clients, including notaries, courts, universities, mediators, international organisations and private individuals. This requires precision, attention to detail and a keen sense of nuance, qualities that have become second nature to me.
My international work experience began in Gran Canaria and continued in Belfast. Since returning to the Netherlands in 1999, I further specialised in professional communication in both Dutch and English. In various positions, I was responsible for editing, rewriting and translating documents. This experience still forms a valuable foundation for my current work as an interpreter and translator. Working with words gives me enormous pleasure and energy, which is why I founded Wonderful Words; out of love for the beautiful Dutch and English languages.
What particularly appeals to me in interpreting is the direct contribution I make to clear communication during important moments, for example during meetings at the notary's office or in a legal context. I ensure that all parties involved can fully participate in the conversation. When I’m translating written material, I find the space to apply the same care in a different way. While interpreting requires immediate precision, translation offers the possibility of refining a text in detail. I take the time to find the right tone, carefully convey nuances and formulate a text in such a way that it reads naturally and convincingly in the other language.
With Wonderful Words, I have combined my experience and specialisation into a professional language practice. Clients appreciate my diligence, my commitment and my ability to quickly and thoroughly immerse myself in new topics. This allows me to contribute to clear, correct and reliable communication in any context where words matter.

As a sworn interpreter, I contribute to clear and careful communication between people who don’t speak the same language. I work for notaries, courts, universities and international organisations, among others. My interpretation ensures that all parties involved can participate fully in the conversation. In doing so, I not only convey the content, but also the nuance, intention and tone of what is being said. I interpret both simultaneously and consecutively, preferably on site but also remotely if necessary.
Interpreting requires instant precision. Unlike with written translation, there is no possibility to rephrase or correct afterwards. Every spoken message must be rendered immediately and completely, while retaining meaning and context. This requires not only an excellent command of both languages, but also concentration, meticulousness and the ability to move quickly and accurately.
I interpret in notarial and legal contexts and am one of the regular interpreters for university councils and works councils of several universities and higher education institutions. Thanks to my experience and thorough preparation, I support clients in situations where clear communication is essential. This creates space for real communication, regardless of the language spoken.
"Judith has been interpreting all University Council meetings since 2023.
In simultaneous interpreting, she knows how to convey not only the content of what is said but also the emotion with which it is said. As a result, she knows how to render our Dutch discussions into English at lightning speed so that our international councillors understand what's being said almost immediately, allowing them to react promptly. As a result, discussions run very smoothly. Judith has a good rapport with our international councillors and is involved, not only with our international councillors, but with the whole council."
Wim de Smidt, Chairman, University Council, Utrecht University

Translation is more than just converting words into another language. It requires an understanding of language, culture and the target audience. A text should not only be accurate but also feel natural to the reader. That is why I tailor each translation to the purpose and audience of the text, whether it is a legal document, a website or internal communication.
As a sworn translator of Dutch and English, I provide accurate and reliable translations for a wide range of clients, including notaries, companies, universities and private individuals. I translate from Dutch into English and vice versa, with a sharp eye for content, nuance and context.
For official documents such as notarial deeds, diplomas and statements, you can rely on me for sworn translations that meet the legal requirements. Meticulousness, consistency and confidentiality are key. I work with professional tools to ensure consistency, but the quality of a good translation remains a matter of human expertise. Understanding nuance, tone and context makes the difference between a correct translation and a good translation.

"Judith translates Dutch articles into English for DUB magazine, aimed at students and employees of Utrecht University. It’s great to see that Judith, in her translations, tries to find the right tone in all areas and delivers a translation that is true to the original text. In doing so, she always focuses on correct grammar and spelling and also indicates if a mistake has crept into the source text. Moreover, without exception, she delivers well within the - sometimes tight - deadlines and we can therefore always count on her!"
Marjorie van Elven, Editor, DUB Magazine

It’s not always easy to find the right words for what you want to say. Whether it is a website, a newsletter, or corporate content; the framework is often already in place, but the wording needs attention.
As a copywriter and editor, I help clients formulate their message clearly, correctly and appropriately. I write new texts, edit existing content and contribute ideas on structure and tone. In doing so, I always connect with the target audience and the purpose of the text.
My background as an interpreter and translator helps me pay close attention to nuance, wording and consistency. This combination ensures that texts are not only easy to read but also convey exactly what you want to say.
Whether it's about fine-tuning an existing text or developing new content, I enjoy working on communication that is right, in form and content. On my blog, you will find several articles that give a good idea of my personal writing style. They are translations of the blogs I wrote in Dutch.
"Judith is the translator of our website. At the very first assignment, she respectfully let us know that there were spelling and stylistic errors in the Dutch website and that she would like to correct them. Since then, we involve Judith in our writing process from the very beginning. Sometimes it's just a small spelling error, but she often comes up with suggestions to improve the text or asks questions that show that our story is not as clear as we thought after all.
In addition, she also responds very quickly, and we can always call her with a language question, which she answers immediately. In fact, if she sees a post on our social media that has not been checked by her and a mistake has crept in, she immediately texts us so we can adjust it quickly. It is so nice to work with someone who has the same drive for her profession as we have for ours."
